The morning before surgery. Just above Lew’s belly button is his zipper from his facia repair about 35 years ago.

The day after surgery in Intermediate Care        

Nov. 8, 2006        

The day after surgery in Intermediate Care. Lew’s right kidney was removed because of a golf ball size Kidney Cancer growth. His left bowel was resected to remove a Colon Cancer mass.

Staples in his neck

The line in Lew’s neck was attached with three staples.

The infection

Nine days after surgery the infection is starting to become evident around Lew’s belly button.

Partly opened        

Nov. 18, 2006        

Due to the infection, Lew had to be partly opened up again. Six staples were removed. The opening stays packed with wet gauze. Outside the opening, he’s covered with dry gauze to wick the collecting fluid out of the opening.

Preped for Second Re-Opening - Six Weeks after Surgery. The wound opened a month ago, hasn’t healed. It needs to be cleaned out.

December 25, 26 and 27, 2006.  Looking closely, you can see the wound is starting to close.  Not to worry — that growing red dot on the left is a pimple.  And, yes, that thing just opposite it is Lew’s belly button.
